Hair Transplantation
The transplantation of hair has undergone great changes in the past few years. The use of coarse 3-5 mm. diameter plugs has been replaced by the use of mini (1.3-1.5mm.) plugs, and with micro (single hair) transplants, for a much more natural appearance. With these advanced changes, highly trained surgeons like Dr. McAvoy have adopted hair transplantation surgery for their patients.
The new approach to hair transplantation is to apply the highest standards of plastic surgery to the procedure, with results that are exciting.
Before starting your transplantation, we recommend RogaineTM, PropeciaTM, and SinEcchTM, as well as antibiotics and sometimes steroids. The procedure can be done with minimal oral sedation, and hiding the scalp in the first seven days is sometimes desirable. A period of six months of non-growth of newly transplanted hair is common.
Hair transplantation for most persons, including up to 600 micrografts and minigrafts typically costs $3500 to $4500. Total restoration costs can vary significantly based on the area to be covered and the thickness of the hair desired.
Why should I go to Dr. McAvoy instead of the clinics I see on TV with “thousands of patients?”
Hair restoration is part art, part science. The art is in the look of the outcome, and the skill and aesthetic of the artist is more important than the science of which brush is used on the canvas. Using a plastic surgeon with a highly-trained aesthetic can give a more refined, natural and personalized look than you might get in a high-volume facility. We’ve all seen persons with hair transplants done in a “less-than-aesthetic” manner.
Dr. McAvoy, unlike many high volume clinics, will personally be present throughout your procedure, inserting the grafts himself, with the aid of experienced operating room personnel not delegating the insertion of your grafts to office staff or clerical persons with varying skills and experience.
Dr. McAvoy has already been skillfully doing this procedure in more difficult, post-injury, plastic surgery patients. He maintains an unhurried approach, which means fewer patients and better attention to detail.
Many patients coordinate hair restoration with other cosmetic procedures not available at the hair-clinics, like facial peels, nose reshaping, facelifts, eyelid lifts, etc.
We look forward to hearing from you and are excited about getting you a new hairline at an affordable cost!
